Why Your Beauty Routine Needs a Collagen Boost ASAP

Updated: September 18, 2024

collagen for hair

The ever-youthful Jennifer Aniston calls collagen ā€œthe glue that holds everything together.ā€ And sheā€™s right! Collagen gives structure, strength, and elasticity to your skin. It also promotes the growth of new skin cells and aids in the removal of dead ones. Simply put, collagen keeps your skin looking young. Think of it as the spring in your skin’s mattress, keeping everything firm, fresh, and radiant.

But as time passes, your natural ability to produce collagen declines, so collagen levels begin to decline, leading to visible signs of aging such as wrinkles, sagging skin, and a lackluster appearance, not to mention weaker nails and thinner hair.

The desire to mitigate these aging effects is why the beauty industry is abuzz with the benefits of collagen. But not all collagen peptides are equally beneficial for your skin. In fact, many of them do nothing to support a youthful appearance. Thatā€™s why a team of scientists were so excited about a type of specific collagen peptides called VerisolĀ®. Here are five reasons to add VerisolĀ® collagen to your beauty routine ASAP.

Reason #1 – Collagen makes your skin look younger

In a double-blind placebo-controlled study1 conducted by dermatologists from the University of Kiel, Germany, 69 women aged 35 to 55 were given either VerisolĀ® or a placebo daily for 8 weeks. They monitored key skin health indicators like elasticity, moisture, water loss, and roughness at the start, halfway through, and at the end of the study, plus a further check-in four weeks after finishing the supplements.

The verdict? The VerisolĀ® group showed a significant improvement in skin elasticity compared to the placebo groupā€”and these effects not only lingered but slightly improved even four weeks after they stopped taking the supplements. Plus, their overall skin moisture had improved too! In other words, they looked younger! And the cherry on top? There were no side effects reported throughout the study.

Reason #2 – Collagen reduces wrinkles

In a rigorous double-blind, placebo-controlled study2, published in The Journal of Skin Pharmacology and Physiology,114 women aged 45 to 65 took either VerisolĀ® or a placebo. Each woman consumed 2.5 g daily for 8 weeks, with half receiving Verisolā€™s specific collagen peptides and the other half the placebo.

The study closely monitored the depth of eye wrinkles, measured both before the treatment started and after 4 and 8 weeks, as well as four weeks after they stopped taking the supplement. Additionally, a smaller group underwent skin biopsies to analyze changes in skin components like procollagen I, elastin, and fibrillin at the start and end of the 8 weeks.

The results? Those who took the VerisolĀ® saw a 20% decrease in eye wrinkles compared to those on the placebo. This improvement even lasted four weeks after they stopped taking the collagen. Why? Because Verisolā€™s specific collagen peptides donā€™t just temporarily help improve skinā€™s hydration and plump it up, they deliver messages to the cells in our skin (called fibroblasts) that cause their collagen-producing activity to increase!

The collagen group also showed impressive gains in skin elasticity and firmness: there was a 65% increase in procollagen type I, plus an 18% increase in elastin, essential components for youthful skin. Collagen and elastin work together in your skin. Collagen gives skin strength and resilience; elastin is key for skinā€™s ā€œelasticity,ā€ for example, letting smile lines appear around our mouth and eyes when we smile, then causing them to vanish when we stop smiling and our skin returns to its original shape. Collagen fibers make up 90% of the skin, and elastin makes up 10%. Both are produced by fibroblasts whose activity is boosted by Verisolā€™s specific collagen peptides.

In simple terms, this study suggests that taking VerisolĀ® can really help reduce wrinkles and boost the skinā€™s natural ability to stay firm and elastic. Perfect for those looking to add a little more glow and youth to their skincare routine!

Reason #3 – Collagen Smoothes Cellulite

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study3, dermatologists from the world-famous Collagen Research Institute studied the effect of VerisolĀ® on cellulite. Here’s what they found:

The study involved 105 women aged between 24 and 50, all of whom had moderate cellulite. Each participant was given a daily dose of 2.5 g of VerisolĀ® or a placebo, and they continued this regimen for six months. The researchers checked the severity of the cellulite, along with skin texture and elasticity, at the beginning of the study and then again after 3 and 6 months.

The results? Quite promising! Women saw significantly reduced cellulite and smoother skin on their thighs. The skin also became denser, which is a good sign of healthy skin.

After six months, the study concluded that regular intake of VerisolĀ® noticeably improved skin appearance and reduced cellulite in women. So, if you’re considering collagen supplements for smoother, firmer thighs, this study suggests VerisolĀ® could be a beneficial addition to your skincare routine.

Reason #4 – Collagen Makes Nails Stronger

In a recent study4 published in The Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 25 women were given 2.5g of VerisolĀ® for 24 weeks, followed by a 4-week period without the supplement.

The results were astonishing:

  • Nail growth rate increased by 12%.
  • There was a 42% reduction in the frequency of broken nails.
  • Four weeks after stopping the supplement, 88% of participants still reported improved nail condition.
  • A significant 64% of participants showed overall clinical improvement in their brittle nails by the end of the study.
  • Additionally, 80% of participants felt that VerisolĀ® improved the appearance of their nails, and they were delighted with the treatment’s effectiveness.

These findings suggest that VerisolĀ® could be a great solution for anyone with brittle nails. It improves nail strength and growth and helps maintain healthier nails for longer.

Reason #5 – Collagenā€™s GREAT For Your Hair

In yet another double-blind placebo-controlled study5,confirming the beneficial effects of Verisolā€™s specific collagen peptides,  44 healthy women, ranging in age from 39 to 75, were randomly assigned to receive either a daily dose of 2.5g of VerisolĀ® or a placebo. The trial lasted for 16 weeks, during which researchers measured changes in hair thickness and the proliferation rate of hair follicle cells.

The women using VerisolĀ® saw a noticeable increase in hair thickness. Specifically, the cells in their hair follicles grew by 31% more than those not taking the supplement.

These results highlight the beneficial effects of VerisolĀ® on hair growth and volume.

I am excited about the new collagen. I am curious about the potential interactions between Verisol and Fortibone when taken with anticonvulsants.

  53. Manja AlgaeCal

    May 29, 2024 , 9:01 am

Thank you for your interest in our new collagen product, Gillian! Collagen supplements like Verisol are typically derived from collagen peptides or hydrolyzed collagen proteins. These are usually fairly safe and well-tolerated with a low risk of interactions.

However, it’s always wise to check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting any new supplement if you take prescription medications like anticonvulsants. Your healthcare provider can offer personalized advice based on your specific medical history and any medications you may be taking.

Once we finalize the collagen formula, we’ll be happy to provide you with the complete ingredient list so you can discuss it with your healthcare provider. Safety is paramount when taking medications. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

My docs have each said that the problem with collagen is that it is very poorly absorbed in the gut: you have to take much more than the standard dose to expect absorption of that same standard dose.

Sorry if I missed it but could Algae Cal shed any light on this problem as it affects formulation?

  55. Manja AlgaeCal

Thank you for sharing your concerns, Ann. Ensuring optimal absorption of collagen is indeed crucial for its effectiveness. While collagen absorption can vary based on factors like formulation and individual metabolism, our team is committed to addressing this challenge in our formulation process.

While we don’t have specific details to share at the moment, we’ll have more information and be able to address your concerns once the product is launched. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. We appreciate your interest in our new product!

    Hello,
I have been taking AlgaeCal Plus & Strontium Boost package for more than a year and a half. If I start taking Collagen Complete, should I stop the AlgaeCal for that period of treatment? Thatā€™s because the above article mentions increase in mineral bone density among the other benefits. Thank you

  62. Manja AlgaeCal

    May 29, 2024 , 9:36 am

Thank you for reaching out, Anca! If you’re considering adding Collagen Complete to your routine, we would recommend using it in conjunction with your AlgaeCal Plus and Strontium Boost. The two supplements provide different bone-building nutrients, and using them together can complement each other’s benefits.

You shouldn’t need to stop your AlgaeCal Plus while taking Collagen Complete. However, it’s always a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your supplement regimen, especially if you have specific health concerns or conditions.

We appreciate your interest in Collagen Complete, and once it launches, we’ll be happy to share more information about its benefits and how it can fit into your overall bone health plan. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to support you on your bone health journey!

Are there any clinical studies to support this? I keep reading that from various reputable sites including the Mayo Clinic that there is no proof that collagen taken orally is helpful.

  77. Megan @ AlgaeCal

    May 30, 2024 , 3:24 pm

Thanks for taking the time to comment, Lili! THIS study was a clinical trial of 24-weeks duration which showed improvement of joint pain in athletes who were treated with collagen taken as a dietary supplement. Our collagen product is currently in development, and weā€™re working hard to ensure it meets the highest standards of quality and efficacy. We’re excited to share more information with you soon and in the meantime, feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

I started to take Algae Cal after I fell and broke my collar bone. My doctor advised for me to take calcium. I go to Osteo Strong for Osteopenia and they carry your Algae Cal Product. I researched it on the internet and asked my Primary doctor what she thought and she thought it was a great idea. With age wrinkles are more profound and tendons and ligaments much tighter to stretch. If this can help, I’d love to give it a try. Thank you for your continued research in natural products.

Decades ago I was diagnosed with autoimmune Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease (UCTD). For this reason, I started taking a collagen supplement several years ago thinking it would support connective tissues, particularly my tendons and ligaments. Is this so?

  89. Yoori AlgaeCal

    June 3, 2024 , 6:00 pm

Thank you for reaching out, Margaret, and we are sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Collagen supplements are known to support joint health and connective tissues, including tendons and ligaments. That said, we suggest confirming with a healthcare professional on the effectiveness of collagen supplements for specific conditions like UCTD, as this falls outside our scope of research. I hope this helps! šŸ™‚

I am brand new to this site and I am a brand new Algae Collagen Complete user. My husband has joined me also. I have been diagnosed with hereditary odteoporosis. I will have my next Dexa scan as soon as I can get an appointment. I am very active and will begin strength training at Silver Sneakers this winter. We do live 60 miles round trip from the gym. We plan to go to the gym 2x a week. I am almost 86 (Dec 22). I will have many questions in the future.
I particularly immerse myself in your newsletters. So informational. Thank you.

Great to hear from you, Judi! Weā€™re thrilled to be part of your bone-health journey. šŸ™‚ If youā€™re currently only taking Collagen Complete without the Bone Builder Pack, we recommend adding the Bone Builder Pack to your routine. While Collagen Complete is a valuable addition, itā€™s designed to complementā€”not replaceā€”AlgaeCal Plus and Strontium Boost when it comes to building bone density.

Collagen Complete contains FORTIBONEĀ® collagen, which is clinically supported to strengthen bones. However, for optimal results, pairing it with the Bone Builder Pack is ideal. Hereā€™s why: strong bones need both collagen and essential minerals! FORTIBONEĀ® supports a healthy collagen matrix within your bones, while the 13 essential minerals in the Bone Builder Pack bind to this framework, creating strong, resilient bones. Please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-820-0184 (US & Canada Toll-free) or email [email protected] for any additional questions!
