Very interesting. As a lifelong vegetarian recently diagnosed with osteoporosis, I was given many tools to use to build healthy bone with calisthenics, supplementation of essential amino acids, breakfast ideas and building muscle as an important adjunct to heathy bones. Excellent interview! Can’t wait to read the book and get more details!

How can I get 100 grams in two meals, along with a lot of veggies if I am using intermittant fasting? I find that my appetite is less than before I did IF. I have been enjoying IF for two years now.

  42. Yoori AlgaeCal

    August 6, 2024 , 3:37 pm

Thank you for reaching out, Deborah. 🙂 Getting 100 grams of protein in two meals while including a lot of veggies can be a bit challenging with a reduced appetite, but it’s definitely doable! For example, you can try eating 200 grams of grilled chicken for lunch (46 grams of protein) and 200 grams of salmon with quinoa for dinner (50 grams of protein). Add plenty of veggies to each meal. If needed, a Greek yogurt snack can help meet your protein goal. I hope this helps!

Useful information; will help keep me motivated to do strength training. I don’t enjoy it, but have made ita a priority after my last DEXA showing more bone density loss. Will be paying a lot more attention to total protein as well. I’m sure my daily total has been closer to the lower limit rather than optimal.

I’m 30 minutes in to the IMPORTANCE OF MUSCLE HEALTH with Dr. Lyon. Interesting, but so much talk about grams, grams, grams, body weight, skeletal muscle and more grams?? So I am STILL at a loss about dietary protein. IF her book lets you know WHAT TO EAT for breakfast and dinner I’m in, but if the book is similar to this interview then the book if not for me. HOW do I get more protein in my day, what is quality protein? You say to get protein, you say to eat protein it’s easy, you say eat protein at each meal and in the evening. But you don’t say what to eat. I did appreciate all the lecture about weight lifting because I am guilty of getting my exercise from walking and water aerobics.

Thought was excellent, but a bit long. There is much in the video that is too medically oriented. The last 5-10 minutes was excellent…as it was more pointed in what to do for those of us elders with osteoporosis. I will check out the book however to see if it can be a more efficient way to help point me in the direction I feel I need to go. I will also check out the Tedx talks.
Thanks for asking for our opinions and thanks to AlgaeCal for helping me go from Osteoporosis to Osteopenia.
